good people….good friday…..and what a day…to get inebriated…discombobulated….blood shot, eyes dilated…distil me another pint of ale my kind publican and…eh? whats this? no alcohol…dang and blast!! basterd be ye….we shall manage…
….here so…..TOP 10 ALBUMS…..of this week…because it is very hard to have a “Top 10 Albums of all time” is it not?…you can be cruel and concise but when the dust settles you will end up having 20 honourable mentions to go along with your final 10…and that just wont do…more ills from indecision than bad decision….so we shall just cheat and not decide at all…ever…no intention…in its stead…we find ourselves with a different idea as to what they should be every passing week…for example…Radioheads seminal late 90s masterpiece OK Computer will be tasty to make top 10 any other day of the week…but today im just feeling the clack and clunk of their kinky follow up: Kid A…and Morrissey and Marr might have you believe that The Smiths last album Strangeways Here We Come is their finest to date (yes they will reform, yes they will reform) but im going with The Queen Is Dead (but doesnt everyone?)
….and so…. getting nary a knickers in a twist shouting “COME ON!! SGT. PEPPERS!!” or “WTF!!?? THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON??”…this is just our opinion…and it changes all the time…just like yours..so in the interest of our very own indulgences heres what we think…..today
The Doors – The Doors
leave Jim alone…the doors never wrote a bad song…if they did i never heard it…and if you did your lying
The Jesus and Mary Chain – Psychocandy
tranquil and destitute, blah, blah…. good tunes…lots of noise…quaint by todays standards…but this little nugget is nearly 25 years old…so give thee thanks
Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti
get some led in ye…this is the fave…theres just too many good tunes on here
Kings Of Leon – Youth and Young Manhood
who would have thunk it?…..KOL used to be good before they were oohing and singing about needing people…fuck the nay sayer…this album is flawless…and has the ominous compliment of not being ahead of its time but before it
The Smiths – The Queen is Dead
“Like it or not, this guy’s going to be around for a while” said Rolling Stones Mark Coleman when reviewing this Smiths gem….the guy being the great bard himself Morrissey and he was right…a light that never goes out indeed:)
My Bloody Valentine – Loveless
like The JAMC before them, MBV were a sweet epicentre in the midst of a Richter scale shattering cluster fuck…love the fact that Irishman and lead maestro Kevin Shields did bugger all else after this album…bar going mad…as you do….recently “We are 100 percent going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something”
Nirvana – In Utero
sounds better than Nevermind and has aged a lot better too
The Pixies – Surfer Rosa
another Steve Albini produced album on the list…Billy Corgan of the now defunct (surely!) Smashing Pumpkins, summed this album up nicely “the one that made me go, ‘holy shit’”
Radiohead – Kid A
the difficult one…people didnt get it when it came out? codswallop!…the secret to any Radiohead song is the great song writing that lies underneath all the tinkering…thats never changed from The Bends onwards…hell, even “im not a vegetable mate” Pablo Honey
Morrissey – Years Of Refusal
i can hear the masses calling for heads…this is flava of da week yum….Morrissey surprises even himself here i think…best solo stuff since sliced bread…a must listen
